If we
can’t use it here at the shelter, we offer pet items for those in need and
community outreach programs and sometimes we offer things to our newly adopted

No donations go unused!

Information
Before you adopt,
careful consideration must be given to the responsibilities of pet ownership.
The Animal Shelter adopts dogs and cats, puppies and kittens to the general
public and rescue groups.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees: Cats
are $125 and dogs $175
Payment methods are
cash, check or credit/debit.
Animal Adoptions
The Shelter, located
at 1999 Sizemore Road Germanton, NC 27019, will be open to the public for
viewing of animals
Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m-4:00pm
Adoption Guidelines
Adopters must obey
all state and county laws pertaining to animals. Adopters agree to the
following terms:

The Stokes County Animal Shelter reserves the right to deny any
adoption based on previous animal control records and/or a Pre-adoption
questionnaire.
Animals Offered For
Adoption
All adoptable animals
are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Individuals traveling in excess
of 50 miles may contact the shelter to make arrangements to hold a pet to
ensure it will be here upon arrival. Adoptable animals will be identified as
"Adoption Available".
All adopters are
given the following: Vaccination records, medical history, Rabies certificate and a
spay and neuter voucher.
Adoption Policy
This policy will be
strictly enforced to ensure that all animals adopted through the Stokes County
Animal Shelter will be treated humanely and placed in home with responsible pet
owners only. Persons seeking to adopt an animal through the Stokes County
Animal Shelter may be required to complete a pre-adoption questionnaire.
The following policy
has been implemented in regards to persons who are ineligible to adopt animals
from the shelter.
·
Any person who has been found guilty of abandonment or cruelty to
animals are ineligible to adopt animals from the shelter.
·
Any person, who in the opinion of a licensed Veterinarian, has
cruelly treated, abused or neglected an animal is ineligible to adopt animals
from the shelter.
·
Any person with a past history of animal control
problems/complaints/violations is ineligible to adopt animals from the shelter.
·
Any person under the age of 18, unless accompanied by a parent or
legal guardian, is ineligible to adopt animals from the shelter.
·
No animal will be adopted as a gift for another person.
Stokes County
Animal Control has a new Telephone number.
As we grow, we see a need to have separate phone lines for the Animal
Shelter and Animal Control due to the office hours being different. The new
number will be for people to report animal complaints, trapping or other
complaints. The current Shelter number will be for adoptions, redeeming
animals, rabies shots or for any other shelter need.
The new number
for Animal Control is 336-994-6805. This number will be staffed from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Monday – Friday. If you need assistance after hours, weekends or Holidays you
will need to contact Stokes County Communications for assistance.
The number for the Animal Shelter will remain the same 336-994-2788 and will be staffed
from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday-Friday. After hours you may leave a message, and
we will return your call on our next business day.

North
Carolina General Statue 130A-185 requires that all Dogs, Cats and Ferrets to be
vaccinated by the age of four months and be keep up to date on their rabies
vaccination.
